Vichy fabric

Vichy fabric by Lebenskleidung - a check never looked better

The Vichy fabric is a bit of a mystery. Hardly anyone knows what it is actually with the name and pattern, but then all can agree on one thing: the fabric looks great.

It often comes in a color combination of white and red, blue or green - as it does here - which, depending on the weave, form a fine or somewhat larger check pattern. The pattern found its way into (pop) culture quite early: In the '50s, the famous French actress and singer Brigitte Bardot wore a dress made of Vichy plaid; the picture was not to be the last in which the style icon was seen wearing this pattern.

The name actually comes from the central French spa town of Vichy, where the plaid fabric was produced in the early 19th century. The genesis of the term in English is a little different, and the origin of the 'gingham' used here is not conclusively clear - but that's not so important, because all that really matters to us is that the fabric is good.

It is woven from GOTS-certified cotton and we have it in different designs, qualities and colors - for example as a beaver fabric or with a super small check pattern.
