Plush fabric – cuddly soft and in fur optic
The Plush is so to speak the big brother of the Velvet. No wonder, because after all they are both incredibly soft. The biggest difference is the height of the fibre pile: While it is relatively small in Velvet, the fibre pile of Plush fabric can be a few centimetres high and look similar to real hair or fur.
This is especially important when Plush is used in imitation animals. The probably most famous protagonist among the soft toys is the teddy bear, which owes its name to the former American president Theodore Roosevelt. Through a caricature, which was created in connection with a hunting trip of Roosevelt and showed him with a small bear, the animal became a symbolic figure.

Our organic Plush fabric – not just for stuffed animals
The German version of the story is a little different and of course starts with Margarete Steiff. During a mass in 1903, Steiff introduced the bear with movable limbs and first harvested a lot of scorn and criticism. But an American customer finally bought 3000 teddy bears - thanks to the teddy hype in America.
- Whether the teddy bear is German or American is up to the customer. What is certain, however, is that you can use the Plush fabric of Lebenskleidung to produce stuffed animals that are not only beautiful, but also sustainable. Why is that?
- Because our organic Plush fabric is made from 100% GOTS-certified cotton, which guarantees that strict social and ecological rules are adhered to.
- If you can only roll your eyes when it comes to stuffed animals, don't worry: our organic Plush fabric also makes an excellent impression in cuddly blankets or as an inner lining in coats - and so in the past two years in particular we have got to know a lot of young, fresh labels that have used our Plush fabric for sweaters or jackets.
- Plush is in basically easy to care for – just don’t iron it or put it in the dryer! It can be a bit tricky to work with for sewing beginners at first - the best thing is to fix it every 1-2 cm at the beginning so that nothing slips!
