Calico fabrics

Calico organic fabrics

Did you know that the English word for cotton is related to the term 'calico'? We certainly didn't, and we are all the more euphoric to share our new knowledge with you. Cotton is related to the Arabic 'koton' and from there it has migrated into many other languages. Calico is a smooth, fine canvas fabric that was an important means of trade in India as early as the 2nd century BC.

In the course of colonial history, the then often printed fabrics reached Europe, where they found a permanent place in the weaving and printing industry of the time, and since the industrial age have been produced in large quantities, especially in Great Britain.

Our calico fabrics are plain and particularly breathable. They are very suitable for linings or blankets, but can also be used for clothing. The raw materials come either from controlled organic cultivation or are GOTS certified - all cotton used comes from a project in Uganda, which we have already visited ourselves.
